Tóm tắt

Employing IAs in language classes enables the learners to develop their command of the English language as well as foster the effectiveness of English teaching and learning in a certain context. Thus, it is important and necessary to apply IAs in a classroom environment for its significance to both teachers and learners. This article investigates how teachers perceive and employ IAs in teaching EFL reading comprehension subjects in order to foster EFL tertiary students’ social interaction skills. Three teachers were chosen to participate in this qualitative case study. A triangulation of research instruments including in-depth interviews, classroom observations and stimulated recall interviews were used for collecting data. Findings showed that teachers’ perception and practice were not always the same. Emphasizing social collaborative working environment as a crucial element in making reading classes socially interactive, the selected teachers organized IAs in the form of pair work, group work, team work or even individuality interchangeably and flexibly. However, the findings also pointed out the mismatch between the teachers’ perception and their practice relating to the issue under investigation to a certain extent.
